Songwriter, guitarist, producer, and visual editor: a multidisciplinary creative practitioner.
Sterling Furness is a guitarist, songwriter, and producer working across music and visuals. His process is rooted in developing ideas from riffs into full tracks, with a focus on how parts sit together rather than stand alone.
He has been playing guitar since childhood, moving between improvised lead playing and structured rhythm work, with particular attention to phrasing and tone. Alongside this, he handles mixing, mastering, and visual work, aiming for cohesion across both sound and image.
A complete creative practitioner: from the first chord to the final master, from the rehearsal room to the edit timeline.
"Sterling is a skilled producer, consistently able to extract record-worthy performances from musicians and always with a strong sense of direction when leading projects."
- Alexander Lambert, Interim
Interim's debut release - recorded live at The Louisiana, Bristol. Written, performed, mixed and mastered entirely in-house by the band, with Sterling Furness handling production end-to-end.
Live performance as part of the BIMM showcase, with responsibility extending beyond playing. Sterling developed the visual identity for the set - including graphics and logo direction - to create a cohesive link between the band’s sound and presentation. The focus was on making the performance feel intentional as a whole, not just musically but visually, aligning stage presence, branding, and tone into a single piece of work.
Full post-production of Interim’s debut live album, working from raw multi-track recordings captured at the venue. This involved balancing individual instruments, and preserving the energy of the performance while achieving clarity and consistency across tracks. The process required translating a live environment into something that holds up on repeat listening, with attention to dynamics, tone, and cohesion across the full set.
Planned and executed one of Interim’s early headline shows from the ground up. Responsibilities included securing the venue, organising the lineup, coordinating logistics, and handling promotion leading up to the event. On the night, this combined with performing, meaning the project required managing both the operational side and the creative output simultaneously. The aim was to establish a clear identity for the band in a live setting and build a foundation for future shows.
Contributed guitar parts to the released single “Fly” during my time with Deep Sleep Dreamers. Work involved developing and recording parts that complemented the track’s structure, focusing on tone, layering, and how the guitar sat within the overall mix. The role required adapting to an existing creative direction while still shaping elements of the final sound through performance and arrangement choices.
When recording with Sterling, he always complimented the song well. Every take he would try something new until he settled on the best version, which was refreshing and shows he doesn’t settle for less than his best.
